A friend with PS Elements asked me to send her a psd (or jpeg) file I
created in PS CS. Since I don't have Elements and she doesn't have PS,
here are some questions about whether Elements can read a psd (or jpeg)
file with:
- 16-bit in psd (or 8-bit in jpeg)
- with adjustment layers (curves, levels, hue/saturation)
- above adjustment layers with different blending modes (luminosity,
color, saturation)
Anything else I need to know about psd/jpeg in Elements?
Thanks. >> Stay informed about: PSD in Elements |

16-bit images are converted to 8-bit when opened in Elements. Adjustment
layers aren't supported in Elements but I don't think they are removed, they
are just ignored and left alone. Though not 100% sure. Blending modes
shouldn't be a problem Elements supports them and I believe it supports them
all.
Have her make a copy of the file before bring it in and modifying it, that
away if something happens you has the original to start over from. I think
you would be just as well off to send a JPG.
Also, according to Jeff Schewe at Adobe, PSD file is no longer the format of
choice for Photoshop. In fact they are slowly working to phase it out. TIFF
is the new format of choice. It supports everything PSD does, plus it has
better lossless compression.

also the almost troubleless workflow in interaction with other adobe products?

Why does your friend want a PSD or JPEG? If PSD will not work, wouldn't
PSD or TIFF be a better choice?

Thanks for the response.
The adjustment layers are included so that I can show her how each
layer's effect by turning it on/off and also the effect of changing the
blending modes. If Elements don't support that, I'll flatten the layers,
convert to 8-bit and send her a tiff file.
