Hi

I am having trouble filling a rounded rectangle selection with my
gradient color.
I am running photoshop CS.

1)I create a new Canvas 922X100, transparent.

2)I then choose the rounded rectangle tool and set the radius at 40px.

3)I draw my rectangle and it automatically fills with my foreground
color.

4)I create a new layer.

5)I select the gradient tool hold and drag from left to right in my
selection. The gradient color fills my whole canvas and not the
rounded rectangle I created (My rounded rectangle disappeared).

How do I fill only my rounded corners rectangle?

Thanks for the help

Patrick

There may be a better way to do this but one possibility would be to
first create a new layer, select the rounded rectangle tool, then
choose the fill pixels option (button along top), add the rectangle,
then double click on the layer to add a style. Under style, there is a
gradient overlay option. This method gives you many options.

make your rounded rectangle on a transparent layer
to fill only the shape not the whole layer you will need to select it first
to do that easily control click the layer thumbnail
then draw the gradient

or easier
use the little f at bottom of layer palette and apply an effect
choose gradient overlay
